Our kids continue to shine. Charlotte sees her goal coming for a degree in Therapeutic Recreation at Chico State. We had a spirited weekend with Char, boyfriend Tyler and her roommates at Chico in October. She continues her work at an Assisted Living facility with the “Adopt a Grandparent” program. Jer graduated from SBHS and was admitted to UCLA. In the spring his SBHS VB team played in CIF finals of men's volleyball. He was named co-MVP in the Channel League, 1st team All CIFSSII and 2007 Volleyball Magazine's Boys Fab 50. Presently Jer is competing for a spot on the UCLA Men's team. Since joining the UCLA team he has consistently been in the upper tier and sees limited action in competition. For a freshman, this is an incredible accomplishment. Maripaula will graduate in June from SBCC and has applied for Fall admission to UCSB, UCSD and UCSC. Her passion for the environment and conservation continues. The best news lately was that Maripaula has received approval for her Green Card, which gives her permanent status.
Teriana continues her ESL studies at SBCC which allows her to converse more and more in English. Chris is now relieved of his Spanglish speaking duties. Teri has been serving as coordinator for the Unitarian Society's Nursery School on Sundays. She is in heaven with those little guys. Casebeer & Company actually had a good year in spite of the diminishing real estate market. Annamaria Hamilton, trusted assistant with Chris has secured her California RE license and takes on new responsibilities with the Company. Chris is making plans for a new home office at Islay St. Chris and Teri have lots of fun with the Latinas Group which are Latinas married to Gringos.
Sadly, on May 22nd, Art Casebeer peacefully died at his Laguna Beach home. At 97 years of age, he enjoyed life and contributed to many along the way. Teriana and Chris were able to spend lots of time with Art and Julie leading up to Art's passing. The torch has been passed and I was grateful to have been able to spend good time with my Dad, especially before the difficult time set in on us. He was my inspiration and drive to succeed. I will miss him though I continue to check in with him regularly. Julie remains in the Laguna home with dedicated helpers. She has come around the corner and is feeling much better...though she too misses her best friend each and every day. We had a memorial for Art in June at the Ann McDonald's Crescent Bay home. Lots of friends and family came to remember Art.
In July Teri and I spent two pleasure packed weeks in NYC enjoying museums, parks, restaurants and walking the streets. Teriana’s four uncles and aunts from Cuba and their families made Thanksgiving in Miami a very special time. In September we traveled to Catalina with Paula and her boyfriend Salvador and friend Crystal for our last visit to the Follis’ cabin. The importance of family and friends grows with each year.
We wish you all a happy and prosperous New Year. Call us, drop by or just think about us. We will do the same.
