Volunteering in Santa Barbara I'm a big believer in community service and I have been involved in a lot of Santa Barbara organizations over the years. There are about 700 nonprofit organizations in the Santa Barbara area so you can find something that meets your particular niche. I've found that volunteering is one of the best ways for someone new to the community to get involved, meet people, and contribute. Everyone has their favorite so I'm not going to recommend any one group or organization. All I can do is point you to some good resources that will get you started. The Santa Barbara News-Press has an excellent data base of nonprofits, listed by category. Start here. The United Way has a good listing of links. A general resource on giving is CharityNavigator.
